 2024-11-15 Lunar's Full Moon Reflection 

The last full moon was on October 17th,  since then Lunar's Outdoor Adventures (LOA) has enjoyed much time in the Loyalsock State Forest! The New Moon was on November 1st and  we laid out the upcoming Adventures and opportunities.

Tomorrow is our full moon hike at Rider Park! Registration is now closed, but follow the blog, Facebook, and Instagram to know when future full moon hikes and other adventures will be.

Here's a quick recap of this Lunar’s adventures for this moon cycle:

• PA Trails Talk: 
  • We heard some reports from the Loyalsock Trail, Donut Hole Trail, and West Rim Trail.
  • We had a special guest, Rick AKA Unity, trail fam from the CDT and big time adventurer, check him out at Unity Outdoors.
  • Matt, the president of the Alpine Club of Williamsport, also joined us and gave some excellent insights.
  • Future PA Trail Talks will have facebook events for information.
• LOA Mastering Map Apps Program at Rider Park: 
  • We hosted two sessions on essential navigation skills. Please let us know if you are interested in this. We are currently developing programs for 2025. What would you come out to do?
• FamilyLanding Vistas and Falls hike
  • Lunar, Becky, and Rose hiked the section of the Loyalsock Trail that Lunar has taken responsibility for maintaining in collaboration with the Alpine Club of Williamsport with Rose’s friend, Alina and her mom and dad, Josh and Samara. 
• Lunar’s Modules
  • Maude the Sequoia is back to normal functioning, but still has quite a few things on the todo list before she is ready for a big adventure.
  • Hawss the Tundra is looking for a new home. Unfortunately, without a backseat he is unable to transport Rose. So although we had big plans, this will make an awesome overlanding vehicle for the right person.
• Family Hike at Glacier Pools Preserve
  • Glacier Pools Preserve is one of Lunar and Becky’s favorite places in the Loyalsock State Forest.
• Hiawatha Float for Vernal School and Rider Park

• Lunar’s whole family went for an evening cruise on the Hiawatha Riverboat which was a benefit for the Vernal School at Montour Preserve and Rider Park.
• It was a lovely sunset cruise with snacks, a presentation by Sara Street of Rider Park, and trivia by the Middle Susquehanna RiverKeeper.

 

• Loyalsock Trail Shuttles with Roambler
  • Lunar had the pleasure to shuttle several people this month. This is always great because it gives us about an hour to talk trail and make sure you have everything you need!
  • If you want to thru-hike the Loyalsock Trail and you want to schedule a shuttle, please use the Roambler interface.
  • Eastbound Hikers will park at Dutchman’s Falls Trailhead and Westbound Hikers will park at the trailhead on Hwy 87.
• SAR Training
  • Weekly K9 trainings with STRIKE K9 at various places throughout the region keep our skills honed. Our team is looking for new members, reach out if you are interested.
  • Lunar and Becky both completed their Wilderness First Aid through a NASAR course recently.
• Loyalsock State Forest exploring with Outdoors Ramble and Ron In the Forest
  • While Unity was visiting, we met up with Rich from Outdoors Ramble and Ron and Deb from Ron in the Forest to do some exploring.
  • We visited the Shunk General Store, which is a must do if you are exploring LSF.

Full Moon:
